For those who may not be familiar with the term, nepotism can be defined as favouritism shown to relatives or close friends by those with power or influence. This usually happens in business or politics. To illustrate this, person A can get a job at person B's company because they are related or they are friends with each other.
In my own view, somehow nepotism is inevitable. People are more likely to favour the people that they know. This means the trust between the two individuals does not need to be built from scratch and it's easier to communicate as you already know the person. The negative point of nepotism is that people have the tendency to take advantage of this matter. It's like "Ah no worries, I'll definitely get the job at my dad's company because I'm his son!". But the truth is in fact that he might not have the qualifications or may not even be competent to get the position.
Nevertheless, there are indeed people who may really be capable, and know what they are doing and what they are supposed to do on the job. The person-in-charge may has selected them based on these points and not solely of the relationship that is already built between two parties. And these people work hard to avoid people giving comments like "That person only got the job because she is so and so". They want to be recognized for their efforts and capabilities instead of the existed affiliation.
Fuh isnt that a mouthful? Hehe I hope I've answered the question well.
